Update October 2007:
There is construction going on through the really muddy section of the trail, just
south/east of the southern bridge - here's a photo.
And another gate update as of October 20th, 2007:
the southern one was now locked shut,
the northern one looked permanently closed.

October 2007: I assume this VERY large fish is a salmon. You can't tell from this photo, but it must have been about 3 feet long.
